While much attention is focused on Paris and other Western European contexts in the literature and prominent histories of 1968, there were great upheavals that same year throughout the Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc Countries. While I will focus more on the events of the Prague Spring of 68 in later posts on this site, I wanted to compile a few articles that have appeared recently dealing with Warsaw 68. The events in Poland have been championed as anti-communist and pro-Capitalist, yet their character was much more complex. At the time they were also called Russophobic. From some vantage points they could be described as anti-bureaucratic or possibly anti-soviet - they were far from anti-socialist even if that is what they became. Still, they did not hold the same signs and symbols associated with the far left of their couterparts to the west. Check out these articles/reflections for more insights into these events:
